'''Sonic the Hedgehog''' (Japan japanisch:ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ, RÅ?maji: ''Sonikku za hejjihoggu'') ist eine der bekanntesten Spielfigur (Computerspiel) Videospielfiguren und Maskottchen des Videospielherstellers SEGA.
Geschichte
Über ein Jahrzehnt lang lieferte sich ''Sonic'' ein Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen mit Nintendo Nintendos Maskottchen ''Super Mario Mario'', bis Sega den Heimkonsolenmarkt verließ. Er tritt nun auf verschiedenen Nintendo-Systemen und anderen Plattformen auf.
''Sonic'' ersetzte ''Alex Kidd'', der bis 1990 Segas Maskottchen war. Der schnelle Igel sollte die Geschwindigkeit von Segas (damals) neuer Konsole Mega Drive unter Beweis stellen. Naoto Oshima designte den Charakter, während Yuji Naka der Hauptprogrammierer für das dazugehörige Spiel war. Später wurde er Chef des Sonic Team Sonic-Teams.
Beschreibung
''Sonic'' ist ein blauer Igel. Er besitzt die Fähigkeit, mit Schallgeschwindigkeit zu rennen, daher sein Name (Englische Sprache engl. Sonic = Schall). Er kann sich mit der Macht der von Knuckles bewachten Emeralds in Super- und Ultrasonic verwandeln. In älteren Sonic-Spielen und -Comics wurde das als eine Art Suchtzustand beschrieben, in dem er eine riesige Zerstörungswut hat und sich nicht kontrollieren kann.
Handlung
In den meisten ''Sonic''-Spielen geht es darum, dass der böse Wissenschaftler ''Doctor Eggman'' (''Professor Ivo Robotnik'' in älteren Spielen in Nordamerika und Europa) versucht die Welt zu erobern, indem er Tiere in Roboter, so genannte ''Badniks'' verwandelt. ''Sonic'' muss die Tiere retten. In späteren Spielen stehen ihm dabei Freunde wie der Fuchs ''Miles „Tails“ Prower'', die Igelin ''Amy Rose'' und der Echidna (Ameisenigel) ''Knuckles'' sowie einige andere Charaktere zur Seite. ''Sonic'' muss goldene Ringe sammeln, um sich vor den ''Badniks'' zu schützen, und er sollte außerdem die ''Chaos Emeralds'' sammeln, um sich in den unbesiegbaren gelben ''Super Sonic'' zu verwandeln. Das Sammeln der ''Emeralds'' ist jedoch nicht zwingend notwendig; Hauptaufgabe ist es, ''Eggman'' daran zu hindern, sie in die Hände zu bekommen und mit ihrer Macht die Welt zu verdammen. In einigen Spielen kann ''Sonic'' ohne die ''Chaos Emeralds'' jedoch den (oder die) letzten Level nicht erreichen.
